Win Some, Lose Some

They say a picture is worth a thousand words but when it comes to this one, it tells some fibs too.  We decided to take a curvy car ride to Julian this past week for apple picking.  Car-sickness ensued.  In addition, Lydia was coming down with the flu (which we didn't know at the time).  Minutes after this photo of smiling children was taken in the orchard, Lydia plopped down in the shade and refused to move.  Poor Jack face-planted out of the wagon and got a mouthful of dirt.  Hot temps made us all a bit cranky.  Apple picking was a bust this year.  On the brightside, we did take home a peck of delicious Gala apples.

Start 'em Early

One of the many reasons John is a wonderful husband is he is super handy.  He attributes this to an early interest as a kid and his mom's willingness to let him play with tools.  We found this take-apart airplane at the swap-meet last weekend ($4, brand new in box!).  Jack is really into this toy and so his interest in tools begins.  His future spouse will be thankful.  Megan

Wild Child

I'm pretty sure every parent takes this photo of his/her child at some point.  Well, its our turn!  I heard John laughing hard from the bathroom and had to capture the moment.  We have been washing Lydia's hair multiple times a day lately with special shampoo in hopes of getting the chlorine and green  tinge to come out.  Megan

Thoughtfulness

This is an out-take from our photo session a week ago.  For some reason, I keep going back to this photo in my mind.  We spent the entire morning getting photo-ready.  At the exact moment everything was in its place, Jack took a tumble on the pavement.  That darn pavement gets us every time.  Having two kids has made for a bumpy road for John and I.  No day is easy. My mantra continues to be "Don't think so much, just go."   Life does seem to be getting slightly easier.  Luckily we have two sweethearts to work hard for.  Megan

Baby Pool

Who needs a big, fancy pool anyways!?!?!  Well, at least for the morning we didn't.  All we needed was two small washtubs.  Wait, make that one small washtub.  Megan

Family in San Diego

Prather family reunion in San Diego last week! This was the third summer in a row that Amy and Nathan flew from Kansas to see us. However, this time Dad and Dana joined us too. Most of the time was spent watching the kids play and swim together in the backyard; they loved all the extra attention.  At one point Lydia turned to me with a big smile and said " Mommy, we have a BIG family!"  A highlight, Amy and I took Dad out on a whale watching trip as a late Father's Day gift.  We saw hundreds of dolphins and five blue whales.  I know I will remember the get-together always.  Check out our family photos in which we are all looking our best!  Megan
